This hood pattern is based on the grave find from Skjoldehamn. Coming down over the chest and shoulders, it gives excellent coverage for retaining warmth. Wool has both lovely thermal properties but it also naturally slightly water resistant, which means getting caught in drizzle is less bothersome! Fitting snugly over the head means it sits closer around the neck; but with linen lining, there's no need to worry about the itch of wool on sensitive skin areas. The hand embroidered pattern is based on the Mammen style, and applied to the hood separately so it can be removed and reattached to another item if desired later down the track.
