This basic hood pattern is based on common iconography from the medieval period. Coming down over the chest and shoulders, it gives excellent coverage for retaining warmth. Wool has lovely thermal properties but also naturally slightly water resistant, which means getting caught in drizzle is less bothersome! Fitting snugly over the head means it sits closer around the neck; but with linen lining, there's no need to worry about the itch of wool on sensitive skin areas. A long 'pipe allows this hood to be worn as a hat in the late medieval style of the Chaperon.
